No fewer than 19 permanent secretaries, along with executive secretaries and general managers in the Oyo State Civil Service, retired on Friday.
The event took place at the Civil Service Club, Total Garden, Ibadan, the state capital.
A statement by the media officer to the Secretary to the State Government/Head of Service, Abiodun Atilola, in Ibadan quoted the Head of Service, Olubunmi Oni, as having appreciated the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, for providing opportunities for civil servants to excel in their various endeavours.
Oni congratulated the new retirees for getting to the peak of their careers and their unquantifiable contributions to the progress of the state civil service.
She said, “The retirement marks a new beginning and is not the end of life. It is an opportunity to explore the gifts you are naturally endowed with and enjoy life to the fullest. Take time to nourish your body through proper nutrition, exercise and rest. Don’t engage in any business that you don’t have any deeper knowledge and understanding about. Always remember the world of God, which says Godliness with contentment is a great gain.”
The head of service admonished them to pursue everything they had always desired to do.
Responding, the retired Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Aminat Atere, commended the government for putting together a befitting programme in their honour.
