The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Hadiza Mamuda, for allegedly killing her husband during a domestic argument in Fika Local Government Area.
The tragic incident, which occurred in Garin Abba village, was confirmed by the police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 23.
According to the statement, Mamuda reportedly used a log of wood to fatally strike her husband during a heated argument over food.
“The Yobe State Police Command, Fika Divisional Police Headquarters, has apprehended Hadiza Mamuda, 35, of Garin Abba Village, Fika LGA, for allegedly killing her husband following a heated argument over food. The suspect reportedly used a log of wood to fatally assault the victim,” the police said.
The victim, a polygamous man with two wives and five children, was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a devastated family.
Police say a full investigation is currently underway, and the suspect will be charged in court upon its conclusion.
Reacting to the incident, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act and called for increased awareness around domestic violence. He emphasised the need for community-level interventions in marital issues to prevent violent outcomes.
“The Commissioner of Police emphasizes the need for marital community intervention initiatives to address domestic violence and abuse,” the statement added.
CP Ado also urged religious and community leaders to intensify education and sensitisation campaigns on the dangers of physical violence in marriages, noting that domestic disputes should never escalate into deadly confrontations.
The Yobe State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and vowed to pursue justice for the victim.
