JAMB dragged to court as students claim low utme scores don't reflect performance

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been taken to court over the unusually low UTME scores recorded by several candidates who believe their results do not reflect their true performance.

This development was shared in a post on the popular social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

A user identified as @winexviv called on candidates who suspect their UTME results were either tampered with or sent in error to fill out a form that would enable legal action.

The goal is to compel the court to mandate JAMB to release the marking scheme and scoring details used in the examination.

This move follows widespread outrage online after JAMB released the 2024 UTME results, with reports indicating that over half a million candidates scored below 200 out of 400.

Many candidates took to social media to voice their frustrations, insisting that the scores they received were not reflective of their efforts or mock exam performances. Some even suggested the results may have been altered.

In response to the ongoing complaints, @winexviv urged affected candidates to support the legal process, stating:

“If you are a student concerned that your JAMB score is significantly lower than expected, and you are confident there’s an error, please fill this form.”

The post quickly gained traction, attracting reactions from concerned individuals who flooded the comment section to share their experiences and opinions.

See some reactions below:

@Kickflowdown: “APC JAMB Don buy market. They said it was because they curbed cheating, now will be the time to walk that talk.”

@FOnwuchulum: “Thanks for your proactive concern. We will fight for our children. It’s very easy to conclude that students of nowadays don’t study but the truth is that there is a serious problem with this year’s JAMB result with so many brilliant students getting ridiculously poor results.”

@Buchyogba: “God bless u bro. Since d result was announced, I’ve been checking your handle to see your reaction to no avail. At a point I was tempted to draw your attention to it. I’m happy u ar addressing the issue frontally. I have lots of young people in my church &community this will help.”

@UNnanwube: “I love my generation, thank you Alex, we will continue to lend our voices for these young ones. Thank you for your act of service.”

@GiovanniSol1997: “Thanks a lot for this advocacy. While we have students who don’t work hard, we still have the hardworking, intelligent and ambitious ones. This year’s JAMB result is nowhere a true reflection of the consistent efforts and track records of these brilliant students! Justice!!.”
