Rivers Crisis: Supreme Court Verdict is an Act of War - Eze

According to report, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has strongly criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate the 27 lawmakers who defected in Rivers State, labeling it a direct act of war against the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, Eze condemned the ruling, describing it as a dark day for Nigerian democracy and an attack on the people of Rivers State.

Despite his disapproval of the judgment, he praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his determination in resisting what he referred to as “an assault by undemocratic elements.”

Eze expressed his disappointment that the Supreme Court upheld the legitimacy of the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, despite their defection to the APC-a move that, in his view, should have resulted in their removal from office.

“It is shocking that the Supreme Court overlooked these facts and allowed Amaewhule and his group to continue holding office. This decision is not only unfortunate and unjust but also a blatant act of war against the people of Rivers State and the principles of democracy in Nigeria,” Eze declared.

He urged Nigerians to recognize that the ruling is not just a political attack on Governor Fubara but a broader threat to democratic governance in the country. He called on citizens to rise and defend democracy.

Eze also criticized the Supreme Court’s directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to withhold Rivers State’s federal allocations, alleging that it was part of a wider scheme led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to destabilize the state.

“This is nothing but an attempt to weaken Rivers State-the economic powerhouse of Nigeria. The intention is to render it powerless and place its resources under external control,” he claimed.

Eze predicted that the political situation in the state would intensify in the coming days as events continue to unfold.

“No matter what happens next, Governor Fubara has put up a strong fight, exposing how a single individual is trying to hinder the progress of Rivers State and take control of its wealth for personal gain,” he asserted.

The political crisis in Rivers State remains unresolved, with tensions rising between Governor Fubara and his former political ally, Nyesom Wike, while the reinstated lawmakers remain at the heart of the conflict.
