A supercomputer has predicted the final Premier League table and it’s bad news for Manchester United, who have been tipped to create an unwanted club record.
Man United were condemned to their ninth league defeat of the season when they succumbed to Newcastle United on Monday.
Eddie Howe’s team ran out 2-0 winners at Old Trafford as first-half goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton ensured a famous win for the Magpies.
The Red Devils languish in 14th place in the table, with just 22 points on the board.
And, according to a supercomputer via BoyleSports, Ruben Amorim’s side have been backed to finish in the bottom half of the table, with a position of 13th projected.
Furthermore, the study has also tipped Man United to register a new club record for the most league losses in a single campaign before spring.
The club record for losses is currently 14 and they are projected to match that on March 8 against Arsenal before setting a new record shortly after.
Boffins at BoyleSports have estimated the outcome of each remaining league fixture based on a team’s current strength and betting market odds.
The machine then simulates the remaining games in a season 10,000 times and constructs an average league table from the 10,000 simulations, to rule out anomalous results.
Speaking after his team’s latest setback, Amorim admitted that Man United are in a fight to avoid relegation.
“That is really clear. It’s one of the most difficult moments in the history of Man Utd and we have to address it with honesty,” he told Sky Sports.
During his post-match press conference, he added: “When you have these kinds of moments, especially in the big clubs, it’s really hard to turn things around, especially when you don’t have a lot of time to train the basics, to cope with the difficult moments.
“So, we have to acknowledge our position, the way you see the league, everybody can beat everybody.
“So, we have to engage and focus on surviving.”
