Xavi’s position as Barcelona manager is blocking the return of one of the club’s stars.
Sergino Dest has admitted that he may only have a future at Barcelona if head coach Xavi were to be no longer in charge of the club.
Sergino Dest was a regular starter under previous Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman.
However, he struggled with injuries after Xavi took over and had an unsuccessful loan spell at AC Milan last season.
In the 2023/24 season, Dest went on loan again and played a significant role for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie.
Dest rules out Barcelona return as long as Xavi remains
Despite having a contract with Barcelona until 2025, Dest doesn’t seem optimistic about returning. When asked about the possibility, he stated via Voetbal International.
“Only if the situation changes there. Xavi is still there now. So at the moment, no, that will be too difficult.”
The USMNT right-back could get his wish if Barca continue to struggle as Xavi is reportedly on the hot seat after a disappointing run of results.
